Have fun and learn
Welcome to the Canada Bay Community Choir!
The choir aims to promote choral music in our local community. We do this through our performances and
by participation in choral workshops, joint projects and choir
tours.
When
The choir operates on a term basis, based on
school terms.
Rehearsals are on Thursday nights from 7pm to 9pm. (Where)
While
most regular members participate in all four terms per year, this is
not compulsory. We recognise that people have other commitments and
may need to miss a term here and there.
Where
We have rehearsals every Thursday during school term from 7pm to 9pm
at the Drummoyne Community Centre and Abbotsford Public School.
See the Rehearsal Schedule
to see the dates for the two venues. The ideal time to join the choir is at the first or second
rehearsal of a new school term (otherwise it could be difficult to
learn the full repertoire).
Costs
The fee is necessary in
order to pay the choir's key people,
the Musical Director and Accompanist. It also
pays for some of the music scores (more below) and administration costs associated with
the choir’s existence (such as insurance, musical development,
publicity and event organisation).
Annual Membership: $5
Term Fee Paid in Advance: $120 ($90 Concession) OR Session
Fee: $15 ($12 Concession)
Other contributions you can make
Whilst recognising that the choir is a community organisation (not a
professional organisation),
there is an expectation that members will:
• attend and participate enthusiastically in each
rehearsal!!!
• participate in the scheduled performances/events
• inform the Membership Secretary in advance (preferably by
email) if unable
to attend the above
• pay term fees promptly.
As a non-profit organisation, there is always a need for
fundraising, usually in the form of ticket sales for performances.
This falls to choir members to facilitate. Members also need to
assist in the many other functions of a performing choir, such as
publicity, setting up venues, bumping out. Committee members will
provide more advice as
specific needs arise.
Music scores are provided at rehearsals. It is a good idea to store
music scores in a black folder. This facilitates efficient organisation
and gives a uniform, professional look to the choir in performances.
Most scores are owned by and remain the property of the choir. For
some expensive scores a
small loan fee may be charged for the term. For some repertoire
choir members purchase their own copy of the score.
The organisation
A Committee of approximately 6 people meets regularly to discuss
aspects of the choir’s management and direction. The meetings are
informal and all choir members are welcome to attend. An Annual General Meeting is held in February each year. All financial
members of the choir are eligible to nominate and/or vote.
Choir business outside of rehearsal times is conducted through
Committee members and also via the choir's
email bulletin board. It is important that all members register
with this site in order to keep up to date with choir news,
including updates to our timetable, repertoire, etc.
Instructions on how to join are on our website at
www.CBCC.org.au. From
the home page, click on "Members" on the top menu. This will ask you
for a user ID (use "CBCC") and a password (again, use "CBCC"). On the
Members page, click the bulletin board
menu item. That page of our web site contains straightforward
instructions for joining the bulletin board.
If you have difficulty in joining the bulletin board, email our
webmaster at
admin@CBCC.org.au.
Products
All members are issued with a name tag and are requested to wear
these at each rehearsal for ease of recognition and to generate a
communal atmosphere. There are custom made Choir bags (~$25), T
shirts (~$15) available for purchase.
Bags and shirts are needed for touring, publicity and community
activities.
Please ask if there is anything else you would like to know.
