Community Choirs

“When people join together and pull together a performance you just can't buy this. It's something which is magical and so incredibly valuable. It lives in the memory, part of the fabric of life. In communities in the past, I think artistic ways of expression were more accessible than in our time. Modern day city lives can lose this. When we can participate and we feel the benefits of it, it's something we want to hang on to and want to keep doing. I suppose community music is replacing the aspects of community that existed in the past.”
Meryn quoted by
Anne Power and Robert Waters

If you want to make music then join us – we’d LOVE to have you. Download a Membership Form.

The CBCC is a non-auditioning choir, with members from all walks of life.  Join us on Thursday evenings during the school term at the Drummoyne Community Centre between 7pm and 9pm.  You don’t have to read music, although it’s obviously an advantage.

Have fun and learn
The Canada Bay Community Choir is an enthusiastic group of community members who love to sing and make music. We are based in the inner-western suburbs of Sydney, NSW. We welcome singers across a range of musical knowledge and singing ability. If you enjoy singing, team spirit and learning, this could be the choir for you!

When
The choir operates on a term basis, based on school terms. While most regular members participate in all four terms per year, this is not compulsory. We recognise that people have other commitments and may need to miss a term here and there.

Where
We have choir practice every Thursday during school term from 7pm to 9pm at the Drummoyne Community Centre. Click here to download the Choir Practice Schedule. It is best if new members join the choir at the first or second rehearsal of a new school term.

Choir practices begin at 7.00pm promptly, with a warm up from approximately 7.00-7.10pm. Potential new members should introduce themselves to our Membership Secretary. The Musical Director will suggest which section (Soprano, Alto, Tenor or Bass) of the choir is appropriate for their voice.

Costs
The fee assists with the payment of the Musical Director and other key personnel who assist in the choir’s management. It also pays for some of the music and administration costs associated with the choir’s existence such as insurance, musical development, publicity and events organisation.

Annual Membership: $5

Term Fee Paid in Advance: $120 ($90 Concession) OR Session Fee: $15 ($12 Concession)

Administration
A Provisional Committee has been established to get the choir started. At the AGM on 22 July 2010 a new committee of approximately 6 people will be elected by the choir members. All financial members of the choir are eligible to nominate and vote. The committee meets regularly to discuss aspects of the choir’s management and direction. The meetings are informal and all choir members are welcome to attend.

For more details contact us or come to a choir practice. Click here for details of our current plans for the near future.
