Choral Workshops - October/November 2009
Six free singing workshops
were run at the Drummoyne Community Centre. They were
open to men and women, from 18 years onwards. They
are open to all, including beginners wanting to sing in a choir. The
workshops aimed to equip participants with skills to join a
community choir such as the Canada Bay Community Choir. Funding was provided by Club Five Dock.
The workshops introduced some music theory and exposed participants
to a range of choral styles including classical, folk, jazz, pop and
modern Australian compositions.
Workshop Director
Michelle Leonard was the director of
the workshops. She is the founder, artistic director and conductor
of the Leichhardt Espresso Chorus, which over the last ten years
she has developed into one of Sydney’s premier community choirs
with over a hundred singers. She has worked in some of Sydney
leading music schools and is a past assistant conductor of Sydney
Children's Choir. In addition, she is Founder, AD and conductor of Moorambilla Voices - the regional children's choirs based in
Western NSW.
